Most people cannot have luxurious homes. However, that doesn’t mean you cannot afford some items that look luxurious, and in that way upgrade your home’s overall look. Also, if you play it right, these luxurious objects and decorations won’t even cost that much, but with their help, you can make your home look like a million dollars.
Rely on Neutrals
When decorating your home, you should never use bright colors as a base. Instead, start with neutral color palettes and create a sophisticated space. Additionally, you will allow each room to grow with you and any later makeovers will go much easier.
Not only the walls, but bigger pieces of furniture should also be in neutral colors. Sofas, rugs and even closets can be the same color as the walls, but you can create great contrasts with bolder neutral colors. For example, paint the whole room white or beige, and pick the big furniture pieces in black or gray shades. Just remember to keep the colors simple and soft, and your home will look elegant.
Upgrade the Furniture
Sometimes, adding a few new pieces of furniture in your home is enough to give it a more luxurious look. You don’t even have to buy brand new furniture for this. Visit the secondhand stores and you will see how many quality pieces can be found there. Also, if some of the pieces don’t look so good, you can always give them a makeover by refurnishing or polishing them, or by adding some new details of different colors to them.
However, there is one thing that can completely transform the elegance and décor of your home – a rug. Since rugs can be pricey, you have to really think about your picks. It is better to invest in a few cheap rugs that can be bigger, and a few area rugs to upgrade several corners of your home, than to spend a fortune on huge rugs for each room.
You can start with neutral bases, but the rest of the decoration shouldn’t be dull. Be creative and think of many ways you can decorate each and every room. You can even make your own pillows for the sofa, or colorful pillow cases. Also, create your own ribbons for decorating or tying the drapes at the side of the windows and find some artwork to decorate the empty walls (you can make the frames on your own).
If you are an artist, or you know one, have the accent wall repainted and draw some patterns and shapes on it. Authentic wall art will make the room look more sophisticated and unique.
Less is More
All the luxurious homes look big and spacious. Often, that is not because they are huge, but because everything in them is simple. Each piece of furniture should be functional, but beautiful.
Also, never have too much decorations in any room; keep everything to the minimum and your home will be elegant and clutter-free.
As you can see, no fortune has to be spent in order to create an elegant home. Creativity and patience are your best options for getting the home of your dreams.
